Your first session

Nervous about coming along? Don't be.

Everyone at The Music Club walked in for the first time once, not knowing anyone. Two hours later they were in a room full of mates playing music. That's the whole idea.

Just turn up to the next jam night — check the dates below to see whether it's at The Thomas Tripp or Chaplin's. A parent or carer can walk you in, and Sandie will be there to say hello and get you settled.

Do I need to be good at music?
No! Total beginners are just as welcome as gigging players. Jam sessions are about having a go, not being perfect.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. Ever. The venues give us their space for free and the club is free for every young person who comes.
Do I need my own instrument?
Yes, please bring your own instrument. There'll be a cajon and some percussion at the sessions.
Can I come on my own?
Absolutely. Lots of people do, and that's exactly how most of our bands met each other.
What if I just want to sing? Or watch?
Singers, songwriters, drummers, bassists, and the just-curious are all welcome. You can ease in at your own pace.
Info for parents & carers
Jam nights run on Tuesdays in term time, 5:30–7pm. The first Tuesday of the month is at Chaplin's Cellar Bar and the third is at The Thomas Tripp. Sessions are for young people only and are supervised throughout, so parents and carers can't stay in the session. Drop off and pick up, or wait in the bar at The Thomas Tripp or upstairs at Chaplin's and have a drink. Any questions? Email Sandie.

Live performance on stage: the last Sunday of every month at Chaplin's, 2:00–4:00pm.

Jam nights on the 3rd Tuesday of the month during term time, 5:30–7:00pm. 10 Wick Lane, Christchurch, BH23 1HX, in the town centre. Walk in, bring your instrument, join in.

Chaplin's — 1st Tuesday jams & live Sundays

Boscombe's legendary live venue. Jam nights on the 1st Tuesday of the month during term time, 5:30–7:00pm, in the Cellar Bar. Then on the last Sunday of every month, 2:00–4:00pm, Music Club bands take the stage for a live performance with lights, a PA and an audience.

Our story

How it started

Sandie Wood founded The Music Club in 2021 with funding from SoundStorm. She saw a need for young people who love music to connect, rehearse and inspire each other outside of formal music education.

Coached by each other, members have a real say in the music they make. They rehearse and perform in and around Bournemouth, and their bands and sessions have had huge success, with performances at festivals, pubs and venues across BCP.
